TEHRAN - Hojatollah Kimiayee, head of Lifeguard Committee at the west Mazandaran Province confirmed that two people drowned in the Caspian Sea on Friday, IRNA reported.

Kimiayee explained that the first victim was a 72-year-old Tehrani man, who was walking on the seashore when he suddenly suffered a heart attack and fell into the raging waves of the sea.

The lifeguards discovered his body after a two-hour search and rescue operation, he added.

Kimiayee also said that the second victim was a 26-year-old man, from northwestern Province of Ardabil, who went swimming in the ‘no swimming zone’ in Chaloos.

“There are currently 350 lifeguards working in the designated swim areas in the western coasts of Mazandaran, and they have been able to rescue 270 people from drowning over the last month,” he added.

Kimiayee asked tourists and passengers to pay more attention to lifeguards’ warnings and no swimming signs.
